Tribute to the Midnight Warrior
We called him Gumby and The Midnight Warrior,
One was a nickname the other a badge of honor-
Jerry, we asked, can you stay and work late?
To help his company - he never did hesitate-
To say he had a strong work ethic wouldn't suffice,
It was the way he did it, always being nice,
Jerry can you fix it, we'd often ask,
No problem dude, I'm up to the task!
And so off he would go - into Jerry land,
To give everyone he knew a helping hand,
For he was a computer wizard, a guru if you will,
At the top of his profession he was King of the Hill,
If you saw him bright and early, he may not have been to bed,
For he was always working late and trying to get ahead,
And this was how we came to call him a warrior,
The King of Midnight - our Midnight Warrior,
He was a yes ma'am, no ma'am kind of guy,
Always being polite to others was how he got by,
And wheather he was working or out at play,
Let's put on some tunes, we can still hear him say,
Let's rock and roll dude, put on the boys from Spartanburg
and turn it up, all the way baby! we hear him say,
We see him at the festivals and in our yards, juggling five!
With the skill and dexterity that could only inspire,
For the Bulldogs, Tigers, Braves, and Falcons, he rooted,
And he certainly had an opinion on every call that was disputed,
But for all else in his life,
Was the love of his family, especially his wife,
When he talked of Brenda, his bride,
His voice was always filled with pride,
On holidays and special occasions, over to the Carolinas he went,
Coming back with stories of his family, and the good times he'd spent,
Being a good father was especially important to him,
He was always bragging about his boys, Sam and Tim,
We are thankfull for this wonderful love of life you brought to us all
And we are comforted that you are in heaven as God has made his call,
We smile at our last vision of you on that day - darts away,
Just hanging out with your friends, hard at play,
You were our hammer, a great source of pride,
We're sorry it's over, but it was a great ride,
In the days to come when our grief has gone,
We will revel in our memories, and you will always live on,
May God be with you, Jerry McClain
